Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox Limited Edition

At SIHH 2018, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled the new Polaris collection. Inspired by the original 1968 diver's alarm Polaris, a classic amongst JLC collectors. 

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Polaris, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox is a reedition of the 1968 version. The original 1968 model looks a lot like the reedition version, if you would put them side-by-side there are a number of differences but these unmistakably have the same design. According to Hodinkee, only 1714 pieces were ever made of the original 1968 Polaris Memovox.

Limited to 1000 pieces worldwide, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox has a really gorgeous and complex dial execution and carries finishing that mixes opaline tones and grained surfaces. With a date display and larger markers that mix trapezoidal forms with select Arabic numerals, the Polaris Memovox Limited Edition retains its sporty philosophy while rocking a dial inspired by its original 1968 design. 

The main attraction, besides the aesthetics of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox, is the mechanical alarm function. Just like any other Memovox model, the alarm needs to be set with an extra crown. The top crown is for winding the spring to be able to let the alarm go off. when you pull the crown and turn, the small luminous triangle on the dial will start moving around the dial in counter clock wise direction. Push the crown back to the case and you are all set. The center crown moves around the 60-minute scale inner bezel. The lower crown is to correct the time and for winding the movement manually. Of course, this is not necessary as the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 956 is an automatic movement, offering 45 hours of power reserve. 

The rubber strap with Clous-de-Paris motif is very soft and flexible on the wrist and gives enough support to keep the watch in place.

The watch has been worn a handful of times and looks like new. The set comes with all its original papers, box and manuals and there is still 6+ years left of the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture warranty.
