Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 5140G
PATEK PHILIPPE PERPETUAL CALENDAR 5140G
White Gold | White dial
Great products speak for themselves. This is absolutely the case for the timepieces made by Patek Philippe, one of the world’s oldest watchmakers. The manufacturing started in Geneva in 1839 and since its founding its watchmaking history has never been interrupted. Patek Philippe is favoured by royals and connoisseurs alike for its sensational mechanical functioning, miraculous style and in-house development of all watch components.
From pocket watches to perpetual calendars and minute repeaters: the brand is known for setting the highest horological standards, becoming an equivalent for the best of Swiss design. Sophistication and complication are seamlessly interwoven in the fabric of these watches, made to carry one for decades – brilliantly expressed by their world-renowned slogan: ‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.’
This Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 5140G in white gold is the quintessence of understated chic. The Patek Philippe 5140 reference enriched the market in 2006 as the most contemporary work of art in their catalogue of remarkable perpetual calendars, following up the historical 3940 reference that made an everlasting impression, becoming a template for modern perpetual calendars across the board.
Today the Patek Philippe 5140 is no longer produced in white gold – but by exception in platinum, after the introduction of the 5327 ten years later – adding to its captivation. The 18-carat white gold case has a contemporary 37.2mm size with a refined polished profile of 9mm and a rounded bezel, measuring up to Patek Philippe’s traditional dimensions and proportions, sliding easily under the dress shirt cuff. Lug to lug the watch measures 46mm.
The English white dial has three sub-registers, with the months and the quartiles of the leap-year placed at 3 o’clock. In a similar fashion, the weekday and day/night-indicators are placed at 9 o’clock. The marvellous moonphase is placed at 6 o’clock, with radial dates. The dial furthermore features a minute track, beautifully interrupted by applied polished indices in white gold, giving the watch face a sudden sense of masculinity, matching the polished white gold dauphine hands.
The deployant clasp buckle of the watch strap is artistry finished with the Patek Philippe Calatrava Cross, the brand’s emblem. Moreover the watch carries a sapphire case-back, offering a splendid sight on the slim, 22-carat gold micro-rotor movement, jewels and stunning hand-finishing: the Genevian coat of arms and stripes.
The Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 5140G is powered by the mechanical automatic micro-rotor 240Q movement, crafted in-house by Patek Philippe. The ultra-thin, self-winding caliber has a 38–45-hour power reserve and is being used as the heart of Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendars for over forty years. The perpetual calendar does not need any correction until the year 2100.
This rare Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 5140G timepiece is in mint condition with only light hints of use and has perfect mechanical functioning. It comes as a full set, including box and papers.
