LAURENT FERRIER GALET TRAVELLER PIECE UNIQUE
Steel | Satiné blue dial

Origin

Though being an insider’s name in the watchmaking industry, Laurent Ferrier’s resonates with true poetry on the wrist – known for his horological intellect, purity in design and technological pioneering. Ferrier’s story writes itself as a love story between Haute Horlogerie and classic car racing, interwoven by loyalty and commitment.

Born in 1946 into a watchmaking family, with his father being a specialist in grand complications, Ferrier made his first pocket watch at 22 years old. Graduated top of his class, he was recruited by Patek Philippe, where he worked for 40 years, being part of the development team of the renowned Nautilus and overseeing timekeeping aesthetics before finishing as Patek Philippe’s creative director.

It was in the late seventies when Ferrier met the future business partner, François Servanin, of his independent watchmaking Maison at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The two men competed in the 1979 edition of the epic race, placing 3rd overall after Paul Newman coming it at 2nd, in a Porsche 935. In 2010 Ferrier founded his own company – collaborating with his son Christian, who at the time worked on movement development at Roger Dubuis – by launching the Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral.

Laurent Ferrier’s timepieces bridge past and future, breathing horological heritage, simplicity, precision and ‘pure uncluttered beauty’ in Ferrier’s own words. At a time when watchmaking became pompous, Ferrier renewed serene classicism with minimal design, evoking emotion combining ethereal handcrafting with effortless complexity. Ferrier produces around 150 watches a year.

The Watch

This Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller is a piece unique, made to measure on the wrist, being the only piece in the world produced in this configuration. The Galet Traveller features a dual-time display with extraordinary readability with its pure design in its 41 mm steel case. The custom made satiné blue dial is further enhanced by a ton sur ton second time subdial and a date aperture at 3 o’clock, with automatically date changing at midnight, elegantly contrasted by its white gold markers and Assegai-Shaped hands.

On the left-hand side of the case, measuring 10 mm thick, two oblong push-buttons are integrated to adjust the local time, indicated by the central hand, either forwards or backwards, ensuring an intuitive setting system with a sophisticated yet uncomplicated use of time adjustment while travelling. The 9 o’clock aperture indicates the reference time or home time in 24-hour mode.

The round watch has a distinctive bevel-free shape, showcasing thing lungs and the maison’s signature onion-shaped crown, engraved with a pattern. The steel case in contrast is polished and mirror finished.

The Movement

The Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller is powered by an in-house, self-winding LF230.02 automatic caliber with a renowned micro-rotor winding mechanism with natural escapement, showcasing the architecture of the movement completely. This caliber was designed for the dual-time adjustment mechanism, known for its two-year development period to incorporate the complication.
