Grey Gold | Sector dial

Origin

Roger Dubuis (1938-2017) is one of the most legendary watchmakers of the past era. A true visionary, characterized by a sense of mystery and modesty, driven by a passion for haute horlogerie movements and state-of-the-art finishing. Starting his career at Longines and refining his craft at the complications department of Patek Philippe, where he has worked for nearly two decades, Dubuis translated his extraordinary vision into his own brand in 1995.

In the early years – what later appeared to be the heydays of the idiosyncratic watch brand – Dubuis created some of his most remarkable collections. Amongst them was the Hommage line, that came to life under the watchmaker’s hands in 1996. Together with the Sympathie collection, these watches were a – what’s in a name – homage to vintage timepieces that were historically unequalled.

Moreover, the early work was an inspirational nod to Dubuis’ former employer Patek Philippe: showing the world that their horological standard could be challenged. The style of this Hommage Chronograph watch at hand for example, is inspired by Patek Philipe’s classic Ref. 130.

Roger Dubuis has left the company in 2005 after having produced many innovative in-house movements. In 2008 the eponymous brand became part of the Richemont Group.

Of the early day models – complications as a form of art – very few were made. Only 28 pieces per edition, adding to the rarity of the limited edition as we have on sale here.

The Watch

This Roger Dubuis Hommage Chronograph H37 watch is a highly sought-after timepiece, created by Mr. Dubuis himself. Simply stunning: uncompromised masculine elegance, finely finished details and a complicated caliber, all in one.

The watch has a distinct greyish white gold case with a polished finish on the concave white gold bezel and on the white gold lugs, the case sides spot a satin finish. Measuring up to its vintage standard, the 37mm case watch makes a larger impression on the wrist than would be expected, due to its smart body structure.

The white silvered sector dial features silver sub-dials, exemplary of the two-register chronograph design. The watch face shows painted blue graduations and a pulsometer scale, with differing chronographs hands in steel and steel blue, perfectly matching the face with the steel 6 and 12 numerals. The second, hour and minute hands – the latter two coming in rare skeletonized feuilles shape – are blued, underlining the remarkable strong identity of this limited edition.

The Roger Dubuis pin buckle is also made in white gold, ensuring the watch breathes refinement in and out. This mind-blowing watch is further characterized by a bulletin d’observatoire, is signed horloger genevois and has a transparent sapphire case-back with intricate engraving, reminding us of the spirit of the legendary man behind the brand, watchmaker Roger Dubuis.

The Movement

The Roger Dubuis Hommage Chronograph H37 is powered by a manual movement, the caliber RD56 (based upon the Lemania 2310 movement). It bears the fine watchmaking quality emblem Seal of Geneva and was regulated by watchmaker Roger Dubuis himself. The caliber is chronometer-graded, featuring 21 jewels, a monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions, a straight-line lever escapement, a swan-neck micrometer regulator and a self-compensating Breguet spring.
