CARTIER TANK A VIS DUAL TIME CPCP 2552
White Gold | Rosette guilloché dial

Origin

Some timepieces just speak for themselves. Like the Tank. Almost a brand name by its very nature, yet being part of the watchmaking heritage of one of the most elegant players on the pitch, Cartier.

The Parisian Maison was founded in 1847 by jeweller Louis-Francois Cartier. But true horological history was written in 1917 when the Tank was introduced during the Great War, created by the powerful vision from Louis Cartier, the grandson of the brand’s founder.

Word goes it was inspired by the ungraceful armoured vehicles debuting in the First World War. The Tank was immediately favoured by high society figures like Jackie Kennedy and Andy Warhol among many others. Having been on the scene for over a century it can be easily stated that the Tank has one of the most eternal wristwatch designs ever made.

The Tank à Vis was launched in 2001 as part of the highly sought-after Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), known for its mechanical movements and haute horlogerie designs inspired by Cartier’s vast archive – the piece here at hand took its inspiration from the 1931st Tank Etanché (the first water resistant Tank ever made).

The Watch

This rare white gold Cartier Tank à Vis Dual Time Collection Privée reference 2552 features the classic Tank-design with wide brancards framing the dial – set of in an extraordinary rosette guilloché – but spots four screws on the bezel (vis means screw in French), giving the watchface a contemporary touch and a sportier appearance than its vintage equivalent (the Tank Etanché shows the unique lunette but lacks the prominent screws).

The 18-carat white gold case measures 28-32mm, with a length of 40mm including the downturned lugs (weighting all together up to 88,5g). The vis on the rectangular white gold lunette have a hypnotizing effect, drawing you into the dial with dual hour and minute designations, featuring two independent time zones.

The two time zones on the silvered dial are set off in Roman numerals, measuring the passage of time in blued steel sword hands. The timepiece further carries the blue signature crystal of Cartier (the cabochon crown) and a sapphire crystal open back secured by 8 screws. In contrast to the Tank Cintrée or Tonneau dual time models, this Tank à Vis has one movement and one crown, winding the watch and setting the hands of both dials.

The dial, white gold case and white gold Cartier deployant clasp are all signed.

The Movement

The Cartier Tank à Vis Dual Time Collection Privée 2552 is powered by the mechanical 9901 caliber, which is exclusively designed by Cartier for the Tank à Vis watchcase and is renowned for its highly decorated bridges. The manual winding nickel lever movement, with mono-metallic balance and 18 jewels, controls the hands for both time designations with a single correction system on the winding stem.

This unique Cartier Tank à Vis Dual Time Collection Privée 2552 is in mint condition, has excellent functionality and comes in full set, including a Collection Privée Cartier Paris watch box, original papers and manual.
